TMBG are pretty close, but, being American, they don't have the peculiarly English sense of humor that the Kinks had. Still, not many bands can sing a straightforward song about James K. Polk and make it both entirely sensible and laugh out loud funny. They Might Be Giants can, though/5(51).

For their eighth proper studio album, They Might Be Giants continue their good tradition of novelty songs with a brain. Some of the lyrics on "The Spine" are amusing and clever and the melodies are pure TMBG. I already can add "Experimental Film", "Bastard Wants To Hit Me", "Museum Of Idiots" and "Stalk Of Wheat" to other TMBG classics/5(72).

The Spine sets itself apart from recent work by They Might Be Giants in ways that you'll just have to hear for yourself to understand. At the same time, it goes a long way in showing how the band.

The Spine is here! Produced with Pat Dillett and is the first recording to feature Marty Beller on the drums. Lead track “Experimental Film” was made into a video by the Bros. Chaps. of Homestar Runner fame.
